NO WEDDING FOR BURGLAR, Remarking “I dare say the woman will be much happier,” Sir Montagu Sharpe refused to postpone sentence on a cat burglar at the Middlesex Sessions to enable the man to get married. The prison, Herbert Wilson, aged 36, w’as described by the police as the most dangerous cat burglar who had appeared before the court for a long time. He pleaded guilty to three charges of housebreaking and asked for 22 similar charges to be taken into consideration. The proceeds of the burglaries were stated to be about £IOOO. In sentencing Wilson to seven years’ penal servitude, Sir Montagu said: “There are 46 serious cases in your career. Think of the fright, anxiety and misery you have caused by intruding into these home's.”
