TWO MEN KILLED. FALL OF EARTH AT KUROW. THIRD MAN'S NARROW ESCAPE. (Special to the "Guardian.") KUROW, August 4. Two men were killed in a sudden fall ,of earth at the Waitaki Hydro-Electric works here early last evening. They were: — George Todd, aged 48 years, a ganger, of 30 Reid Road, Dunedin. John Muir, a labourer, of 17 Dalmeny Street, Dunedin. A third man, Herbert R. Williamson, of Waiareka Junction, received a minor injury to his head but was able to go to his home after treatment. The men were working under the Otago bank, below the coffer-dam, when the bank collapsed, pinning the three of them. Todd, who was . a widower, was killed immediately. Muir was alive when extricated, and was taken to the Oamaru Hospital with a leg broken in two places. He died later. KILLED IN CAPSIZE. DUNEDIN, August 4. As a result of a motor car in which she was riding capsizing in Garfield Avenue, Ros.lyn, this afternoon, a single woman, 33 years of age, Ivy May Davidson Perriam, received injuries to her head which caused her death in the hospital later in the day. Deceased, who resided at Mosgiel, was travelling in her own car, which was being driven by a friend, Robert Barker, miner, Mosgiel. He turned the car into Garfield Avenue, which is a very steep street, but deceased told him that that was the wrong street and he stopped the car, intending to back out again into Highgate. The wheels, however, were on a greasy patch and the car slid forward, going partly up a steep bank and capsizing downhill. The driver escaped unhurt, but Miss Perriam received serious injuries about the head. She was removed to the hospital and died at 4.50 p.m. MAN'S LEGS GASHED. GISBORNE, August 4. Lionel Cuff, 52 years of age, was badly gashed on both legs while driving a petrol-driven rotary hoo on the hillside, being thrown forward on to the rotary blades. INJURED IN COLLISION, GISBORNE, August 4. John Cameron, 73 years of age, a widower, was taken to hospital to-day suffering from a fracture of the skull, the result of a collision between his buggy and a petrol tank wagon. His condition is serious. MAN LOSES A FOOT. OAMARU, August 4. At 4.30 this afternoon an accident occurred at the Glenavy railway yards, a rake of trucks passing over the left leg of Thomas Devlin, aged 18 years, of Glenavy. He and three others were engaged loading notatoes and shifting a rake of six trucks on to another line, when his left foot was caught in the points, four wagon wheels passing over and practically severing the leg above the ankle, while the toes of the right foot were crushed also. young man was brought on a shutter by the south express to Oamaru and removed by ambulance to the Oamaru Public Hospital.
