STRYCHNINE IN MILK.
TIMELY DISCOVERY.
MYSTERY IN SYDNEY. Detectives in Sydney have been unable to. solve the mystery of the finding of a large quantity of strychnine in a bottle of milk which was delivered to the Central Methodist Mission in that city for Mr Maurice de Berg, who has a bookshop only a few doors away. Mr de Berg had been troubled by thieves who frequently stole the bottles of milk left at the front 1 door of, his shop, and he secured permission to have his milk left in a lire hydrant, box inside the entrance to the Central Methodist Mission building about four doors down the street. '
, On Saturday morning, May 20, Mr j de Berg sent a boy employee to the' Central Methodist Mission to collect, j the pint bottle of milk but, when the boy returned Mr de Berg noticed that the cardboard stopper of the bottle had ; be-sm opened. He tasted the milk. It had a bitter taste, and he communicated with the police. j Detectives had the milk analysed, | and it was found to contain a large quantity of strychnine—enough, in fact, to'kill several people.
