GIFTS OF HEIFERS MADE.
(Special to the " Guardian/') PALMERSTON NORTH, June 15. As a result of the appeal for gifts ol heifers to the Waitangi National Trust Board's estate at the Bay of Islands, twenty animals were prortiised by members at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Red Poll Cattle Breeders' Association at ■Palmerston .North to-day. ft was stated that his Excellency the Governor-Genera], Lord Bledislue, was bringing out a Red Poll bull from England.
At the beginning of tin; meeting the secretary, Mr. J. L. Wild, reported that 12 hail already been promised, and after the matter had 'been discussed a further eight were promised. Mr Wild said he did not anticipate any difficulty in getting about 30, the number which had been suggested.
The president, All' J. AV. Harding, said the Waitangi estate would be a show place and there would be a large number of visitors. It could not lie established straight away and would have to lie worked up.
.All' Wild said the proposals could do nothing but good for the breed, but it would be necessary to take steps to improve the country, for it would respond to proper treatment.
The executive was authorised to do all it could to further the scheme and to go into the question of transport of the animals given.
