THE WAITAKI DAM.

PROGRESS OF THE WORK.

(Special to the “Guardian. - ”' KUROW, June 15

An important stage in the harnessing of the Waitaki .River was achieved yesterday, when the work of building the upstream wall of the third and final wall of the coffer dam was completed.

This wall extends from the completed work in mid-stream to the south or Otago bank of the river running across the channel, to which the river has been confined for the past two years. The completion of this work has had the effect of diverting the river to the Canterbury side of its bed, and the entire flow of the river is now passing through the sluicegates constructed in the permanent dam for the purpose.
