PRODUCER PAYS
TOO MANY CONTROL BOARDS.
NEED FOR ECONOMY
(Special to the “ Guardian.”) DUNEDIN, June 9., At the annual meeting of the Trustees Executors and Agency Company, Mr George R. Ritchie, the chairman of directors said: — “The Government has seen fit to inflate exchange and no doubt the producer gains a little thereby, although perhaps not as much as he imagines. Less Government interference in business would be better for all concerned. , ■ • “The main thing is to try to effect economies by reducing unnecessary expenditure, and in this connection the producer pays heavily for the numerous boards the Government has seen fit to create. In recent years we have the Dairy Produce Board, Wheat Board, Meat Board, Fruit Board, Honey Board and other boards, and I am inclined to think a great deal of the work they do could be done just as effectively and at very much less cost in other ways.
“This one tiling is quite certain, that they are a somewhat heavy expense to the country and in one way or another it comes off the producer's revenue.”
