SEVENTEEN ARRESTS.
POLICE RAID PREMISES. WELLINGTON, June 7. Nine Chinese and eight Europeans were arrested this afternoon when the police raided three houses in Tory and Taranaki streets. The men will appear before the Courjb to-morrow, three Chinese charged Avitli using premises as common, gaming-houses, and the remainder with, being found without lawful excuse in such premises.
EUROPEANS FINED £3 EACH.
THE CHINESE REMANDED. WELLINGTON, This Day. As a result of raids by tbe police yesterday, eight Europeans Avere today each fined £3 and costs l()s for having been unhiAvfiilly on premises used as a. common gaming house. ’Pile charges against nine Chinese Avere remanded on the application of appearing counsel, avllo said he bad not bad time to go fully into the matter.
