CRASH INTO POLE

MOTOR TRUCK WITH WOOL. TELEGRAPHS INTERRUPTED. DRIVER ESCAPES INJURY. (Per Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A motor truck, carrying four tons of wool, owned by the Ashburton Transport Company, crashed into a telegraph post near Sockburn at midnight. It smashed the post like a carrot, and brought down and broke the wires, stopping telegraphic communication with the South and West Coast. Communication was re-established at six o’clock to-day, with temporary wires. Permanent repairs will he completed to-night. The back portion of the lorry was seriously damaged. The driver, Mr W. Lamb, was not injured, but was dazed. Had the lorry hit the next pole, carrying 16,000 volts, nothing would have / prevented the electrocution of the driver. The driver of the truck was Mr John William Lamb. The accident occurred at 11.10 o’clock last evening. . The driver says that he pulled to the left to avoid a car approaching from the opposite direction, which was not keeping closely to its correct side, \ DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC. (iPer Press Association) WHAKATANE, April 7. Gordon Davies, aged 10, son of Mr F. M. Davies, Nukuhou North, died while under an anaesthetic at Sloane’s denial surgery, Whakatane, this afternoon. . FATALLY KICKED BY HORSE. MASTERTON, April 7. As a result of receiving ,a kick from a home, Mr Robert Oliver Smith, a well-known settler at Earlyhurst, Bideford, lost his life yesterday. His body was found down a steep bank, where it had been dragged by the horse, Smith having become entangledln a rope on the animal. YOUTH DROWNED AT TAURANGA TAURANGA, April 8. A party consisting of Mr and Mrs McCullough and Richard Graham, aged 18, eldest son of Mr R. Graham, of Tauranga, went fishing up the harbour in. Mr McCullough’s launch. The craft was anchored off Omokoroa Point last night and apparently Graham in attempting to pull up the anchor, fell overboard and was swept away by the tide, which was running swiftly. The accident was not witnessed by the others aboard the launch. Police are now searching for the body.
