WHEAT AND OATS
JANUARY AND FEBRUARY. HIGH AVERAGE .YIELDS. Figures for wheat and oats threshed in January and February are contained in the March Abstract of Statistics justpublished, and the Canterbury average for wheat is 40.6-1 bushels and for oats 4.6.56 bushels. The report states: The results of threshing operations carried out during the period January-February have been ascertained from the returns received up to March 24. The figures show that 3,681,612 bushels of wheat and 1,146,953 bushels of oats have been threshed from harvested areas of those crops, the ascertained average yields per acre being 39.92 bushels for wheat and 47.35 bushels for oats. The following table shows, for each land district, the quantities of wheat and oats threshed, and the average yield per acre in each case:— Wheat.
Of the total of 3,681,612 bushels of wheat, 3,474,495 bushels were firsts and only 207,117 bushels seconds. For Canterbury firsts totalled some 3,113,398 bushels and seconds 178,756.
