INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL.
Sir—May I ask the space to reply to "One Who is Interested," who inquires through last evening's "Guardian" about an invitation from the Allenton School Committee, to the Director of" Education, to address a meeting in Ashburton in reference to an Intermediate School I havo followed with interest the establishment of such a school in Christchurch, and proposals to establish similar schools in ■ other centres, and feel that our educational district should have an opportunity of hearing at first hand .the advantages (or otherwise) of the system. I mentioned the matter at the meeting of my committee on March 6, when it was decided to invite the Director of Education to address a meeting and explain the system. Owing to his absence from headquarters he was not able to reply till March 23, when he stated that he should very much like .to have the pleasure of meeting Ashburton citizens who are interested in the reorganisation of our School system, and that he would telegraph me as soon as he could arrange a, date. If the Intermediate School is going to he an advance on our present system, why should we not have the benefits to be derived, as well as other centres? As soon as the Director of Education arranges a date the meeting will be advertised, and a suitable hall engaged, when my committee hope that every secondary and primary school will be represented by chairmen, members of boards, committeemen, headmasters and teaching staffs, and that others interested will attend. E. O. RATHTTRST. Chairman Allenton School Committee.
