LOCAL ELECTIONS
POLLING NEXT MONTH. MAYORALTY AND COUNCIL. POSITION OF PRESENT MEMBERS Three members of the present Borough Council in Ash burton have stated definitely that they will again be candidates at the local body elections, which are to be held on May 3, four weeks to-day. Three others have not yet stated their intention but will almost certainly stand for a further term, three have stated they are not definite about the matter so far, though one of these is looked upon as a certain candidate. One other is doubtful, and the decision of the eleventh member lias yet to be announced. Tlie Mayor (Mr W. H. Woods) will most likely stand again, but his decision is not yet final. The Deputy-Mayor (Mr R. Kerr) stated to-day that his decision with regard to the Mayoralty had not been made yet. He would, however, be a candidate for the Council. Messrs E. H. Orr, H. R. C. McElrea and J. Thompson will stand again, while Messrs W. H. Rundle, F. Z. D. Ferriman and„F> J. E. Smallbone will most likely be candidates. Messrs R. A. Collins, W. H. Robinson and F. W. Seldon have not decided what they intend to do with regard to nomination, but Mr Collins is regarded as a certainty. Mr J. Watson stated to-day that he is doubtfuLifl he will be a candidate on May 3. Mr J. T. Fratley has stated his intention fb be a candidate for the Borough Council, and it is stated that there will be at least one Labour nominee, this candidate not been chosen yet. The supplementary electors' list comprised about 100 names this morning, and it was thought there would be a good many more by the time the list closed at 5 o'clock this afternoon.
