A SERIOUS CHARGE

ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER. DOMESTIC AGAIN REMANDED. (Special to the "Guardian.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A further remand was granted to Myrtle Long, a domestic, 45 years of age, married, residing .at 89, Hackthorne Road, who appeared on remand in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, charged with attempting to murder, on March 25, 1933, Arthur Henry Way, 53 years of age, .a commercial traveller. When the case was first called last Tuesday the police evidence was to the effect that Mrs Long had fired five shots from a six-chambered revolver. One of the bullets had hit Way in the arm, and he had been admitted to the Christchurch Hospital. Way pleaded not guilty to charges of being unlawfully on enclosed premises at 89, Haokthorne Road, and of being an idle and disorderly person, and was also remanded. Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., was, on the Bench yesterday.Mr Stacey appeared for Mrs Long, and Mr Hobbs represented Way. Chief-Detective Dunlop asked that both the accused be remanded until April 11. "We are not prepared to proceed witfcuthe charges at present," he said. "I can give a definite assurance that we can go ahead next Tuesday." Mr Stacey said that lie understood Mrs Long would be allowed to remain, as at present, in the Salvation Army Home. Mrs Long was remanded until April 11, to be detained in the Salvation Army Home. Mr Hobbs asked that Way should be allowed out on bail without a surety. He said that Way had a bad leg which would need attention; he was prepared to report twice daily to the Police. The Magistrate: I won't do that, but the bail can be reduced. Chief-Detective Dunlop: We don't want Way going back to 89, Hackthorne Road. Way was remanded until April 11, bail being fixed at £SO, with one surety of £SO. He was ordered to report daily at the Detective Office.
