PERSONAL.

The Hon. C. E. Macmillan (Minister of Agriculture and Mines) was a passenger on, the south-bound express train this morning. A London cablegram announces the marriage cf Mr R. Richards (pilot of the aeroplane in which Lady Chaytor set out to fly to Australia . recently prior to her visit Jo New Zealand) and Miss Mary Lennie, of Wellington. Dr. L. G. Bell, M. 8., Ch.B., has been appointed medical superintendent of the Grey Hospital in succession to Dr. J. F. C. Moore, who has resigned, but who has been appointed chief surgeon for the hospital, says a Press Association message from Greymouth. The Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt, past president of .the Methodist Church, and connexional secretary, is, on medical orders, taking a fortnight's rest. He hopes to resume his duties at the connexional office by the end cf the month. A motion of sympathy with Mr W. Let ham (president of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association) in the death of his daughter was passed at the meeting of the Mid-Canter-bury Provincial Executive cf the Farmers' Union this afternoon. ; Mr Harold Scotney, who has been master of the Salvation Armv Band in Wellington for the last 14 years, left for Australia on a six week's' holiday by the Wanganella yesterday. Mr Scotney is considered one of the four best composers and arrangers of brass band music in the Salvation Army, and wherever the Army is established Scotney compositions and arrangements are known. He was the arranger of the hymn "Bockdale." with which the Port Nicholson Silver Baud won the test at the Dunedin competitions.
