MAYORALTY AND COUNCIL. DEPUTATION MEETS MR KERR. RELIEF WORKERS’ REQUEST. \ There is a likelihood of a contest for the Mayoralty at the Ashburton local body elections in May, and it appears there will be several new candidates for seats on the Borough Council. A deputation representing the relief w r orkers of Ashburton waited on Mr R. Kerr last evening, requesting ( his consent to be nominated for the Mayoralty. - Mr Kerr thanked the deputation, and asked for several days in which to determine his answer. Mr Ken' has been Deputy-Mayor of Ashburton for three and a-half years, and he was Mayor for six months between the time Mr R. Galbraith left Ashburton and the subsequent election. He has been a member of the Borough Council for many years, is chairman of the Works Committee, and chairman of the Ashburton Local Unemployment Committee.
