(From Our Own Correspondents.) EALING. The Ealing Women's Institute met recently, when Mrs Davis presided over a fair attendance of members. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on April 6, when the delegates for the Geraldine conference would also be elected. Mr Gardner judged the competition for bowls of annuals and also gave a brief talk on gardening, for which ho was accorded a vote of thanks. The winners of the competition were Mrs Giddings and Mrs J. Withell. Some time was spent by members in discussing the new programme and many new suggestions were handed in. Those responsible for the afternoon tea -were Mesdames Barker, Giddings and Pierce. CHERTSEY. Mrs H. R. Wilkinson presided at the annual meeting of the Cheptsey branch of the Women's Institute. Ihe bal-ance-sheet, prepared by Miss 0. Doig, was read by Mrs J. W. Watson, and showed a credit balance of £2 4s lid. Votes of thanks were passed to the outoing officers and committee, and to Mrs J. iDoig and Miss M. Hanrahan. The following officers were elected: — President, Mrs Hugh 11. Wilkinson; vice-president, Mrs A. P.. Bruce; secretary, Miss Doreen Campbellj treasurer, Miss Ella Flynn; committee, Mesdames J. Mason, 11. Copland, J. W. Watson, W. Copland W. Lambie, Watt, Copland and Miss J 5. Magson. Messrs L. J. Hanna and S. it. McConnell were scrutineers. After' the business session members adjourned to the Chertsey Domain where a picnic was held. Games were enjoyed and afternoon tea was served. RAKAIA. On Sunday-.evening-in St. Andrew's' Presbyterian Church, .the annual harvest thanksgiving service was held. There_\v»s a good attendance, among those present being the first Rakaia company of Girl Guides and Brownies under their leader, Miss V. E. Fox. The church was decorated with flowers and greenery, and there was a good display of fruit, vegetables and other produce, which will be sent to the Presbyterian Orphanage, Papanui. The service as conducted by tiie Rey. J. &. Young, formerly of New Brighton. There was a good run of quinnat salmon in the Rakaia River during the week-end. Fish up to 361 b. were caught by local anglers. The best catclies were made on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, one fisherman took nine quinnat from the river, the heaviest being 28lb. The following day he and two others caught twelve, which weighed up to 281 b. Four of the Christ-church Volunteer units will march into camp at the ltakaia [Domain on Saturday, March 25. The unit commanders are the Third Field Company New Zealand Engineers, Southern Depot New Zealand Signals, Third Composite Company New Zealand Army Service Corps, and the Third Field Ambulance, New Zealand Medical Corps. Altogether it is estimated that there will be 25 officers and 150 n.c.o.'s and other ranks. The residents are invited, to visit the camp on the afternoon of Sunday, March 26, and tho assembled units intend to stago a camp concert on March 31. Camp will- be struck on Saturday, April 1.
