The Minister of finance states that the London negotiations enabled Denmark to maintain her quota of* bacon exports to Britain and to avoid an increased tariff on butter, if Denmark bought an adequate amount of other products from Britain. Danish firms, he said, would co-operate in that connection if prices were suitable. MARGARINE CONTROL. AUSTRALIAN REGULATIONS. ~, |'-,..." , SYDNEY, March 14. :. The New South Wales Government has gazetted new regulations of particular interest to the dairying industry, under which margarine must contain no oils,. fats', or colouring, matter; resembling butter, and no chemicals or preservatives which are likely to give margarine the same aroma and flavour as butter. AUSTRALIAN RESTRICTION. LEVY TO PAY FOR SURPLUS. CANBERRA, March 14. The Dairy Export Control Board reluctantly agreed to a. six per cent, restriction on Australian butter exports, and urged the Federal Cabinet to formulate a plan to finance the loss occasioned. It is understood that the Cabinet agreed to enact legislation imposing a levy of up to.a farthing a pound on all butter exported, the proceeds to be distributed so as to ensure payment at current market prices for the total amount held back from export. The restriction of G,per cent is -toJ continue for one year.
