The Dairy Export Control Board reluctantly agreed to a. six per cent, restriction on Australian butter exports, and urged the Federal Cabinet to formulate a plan to finance the loss occasioned. It is understood that the Cabinet agreed to enact legislation imposing a levy of up to.a farthing a pound on all butter exported, the proceeds to be distributed so as to ensure payment at current market prices for the total amount held back from export.
