SWIMMING.
ASHBURTON CLUB'S CARNIVAL. The Ashburton Amateur Swimming Club held its opening carnival at the Borough School Baths this afternoon, when there was a poor attendance of the public. The weather Avas fine but dull. The president (Mr J. W. Bowden) declared the season open, and said that the attendance proved the fallacy of holding an afternoon carnival. The committee had decided that in future all carnivals would be held in the evening. He wished the club every success during the season.
