"PREPARED TO JOIN"
AMALGAMATION QUESTION.
TECHNICAL CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT.
IF IN! INTERESTS OF SCHOOL. Mention of the proposal for the amalgamation, of the Ashburton High and Technical Schools was made at the break-up ceremony at the Technical School yesterday by the chairman (Mr A. L. Jones). "Perhaps the time is opportune for me to mention! the matter of amalgamation of this school and the High School," said Mr Jones. "Some publicity has recently been given to this movement, and perhaps a statement today in the presence of the parents would be opportune. Your Board will make themselves fully conversant with the pros and cons of amalgamation, and I would ask you here to give us the right to form our own opinions and act accordingly. "If, in our judgment, amalgamation is not in. the best interests of technical education, then we must oppose it. On the other hand, if we consider it advantageous to amalgamate, in the interests of education as a whole, in the interests oi the pupils of the school, the teaching facilities and r all other things appertaining to the efficiency of the staff, then we are prepared to join forces and to endeavour to bring about a combination."
