WATCHED BY DETECTIVES. NO PHOTOGRAPHS PERMITTED. KOBE, October 17. Extraordinary precautions are being taken against espionage in Japan. Americans are being singled out lor special attention by the Japanese detective force. , • A month ago executives of the J.okio branch of the Bank of New York were refused permission to send to then head office pictures of Japan for use in advertising propaganda. Tho latest step in the campaign occurred yesterday when a party of hank officials' on an excursion hv car to Kyoto were escorted throughout their holiday by detectives, who prevented any photographs being taken. The car was hoarded soon after the start of the holiday, and the tourists were handed over to other parties at various stages of the journey. Diplomatic pressure is to be brought to hear in order to ease the situation.
