TROTS AT WELLINGTON. HAROLD LOGAN’S GREAT WIN. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, Oct. 30. The Wellington Trotting Club’s New Zealand Cup Trial meeting was held on Saturday in dull but fine weather, with a strong wind in evidence all the afternoon. The course was in excellent order, and the racing was appreciated by the large and enthusiastic crowd that patronised the comfortable enclosures. Socially and financially, the meeting was a huge success. It is expected that a profit of between £3OO and £4OO will be made. While the totalisator turnover of £14,900 15s showed a decrease of £1959 5s over last meeting, the gate receipts were up by £l5O at least. Other avenues of revenue showed an improvement also. Two brilliant performanpes during the day were registered by Harold Logan and Indianapolis. Lough "Neagh ran a fair race, but Compris proved a disappointment. Liberal had a brilliant win in the Derby after being interfered with, as a result of Kuyera falling at the entrance to the straight. Gaine Carrington ran a great race, but he tired in the last bit. Liberal’s rider, Munro, won the Alelbourne Cup on Liberal’s sire, Windbag. Liberal is engaged in the Clip. He is trained by Fred Foulsham, who formerly had Mollison in his stables. Denis Boy ran a good Cup trial in the Cantala Handicap, and finished fast. He was second to Dermid in the same event last year. His trainer, F. AlcGrath, won the Cantala Handicap previously with Amounis twice. His rider, H. Jones, won the race on Vaals. Alaurice McCarten had a fall with Kuvera in the Derby, but escaped injury. The rank outsider, Roc, who won the Hotham Handicap comfortably, is not engaged ill the Melbourne Cup. He is trained by the veteran, J. Scobie, and was bred by his owner, Mr E. E. D. Clarke. The Cup candidate, Yarramba, finished strongly. AY. Duncan will ride Peter Pan in the Alelbourne Cup. Denis Boy has been rehandicapped 31b in the Melbourne Cup and now has 9st 21b. Liberal will carry 41b extra, and now has 7st 61b. Denis Ro\’ is now top-weight. Rulanut is an acceptor in the HighWeight Handicap on Tuesday; Dill}’ and Tessie are in the Mimosa Stakes, while Rulanut and Actaeon are in the Yan Yean Stakes.
