LIBERATION OF FRY.

ACCLIMATISATION WORK. ACTIVITIES AT ASHBURTON The monthly meeting of the Council of the Ashhurton Acclimatisation Society was held last evening, when the chairman (Mr T. G. A. Harle) presided. A letter was received from the Department of Internal Affairs asking the society to forward its recommendations for next game season. This matter was held over for discussion at the next meeting. The ranger reported that the following liberationSftiad been made during October: —100,000 brown trout fly were liberated in the Ashhurton River, 20,000 were liberated at Pudding Hill, 40,000 were liberated in Boyers Stream, 20,000 were placed in Mr Chisnall's holding pond at Hinds, and 20,000 were at present held in the feeding hox at the hatchery. Over 30,000 rainbow fry had been received from the South Canterbury 'Society and were being held' in the feeding boxes at the hatchery. The chairman reported on the proceedings at the New Zealand Acclimatisation Societies' Association Conference held at Wellington early this month, which he attended as the Ashburton Society's delegate. The chairman reported that the fences at the Rnngitata and Hakatere Settlements had been repaired.
