SERIES OF CHARGES
THREE MEN ACCUSED. SEQUEL TO BURGLARY. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. At the -Magistrate's Court yesterday,, before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.m., Edvvaru Joseph O’Loughiin, a labourer, aged 25, and Thomas Andrew O’Loughnn, a bricklayer, aged 22, were ciiargeo with breaking and entering the warehouse of Geprge Gordon Sutherland at Annat and committing theft, stealing petrol and oil valued at El los, the property of William Wilkins, receiving jewellery valued at £24 16s 6d, the property of Frederick Alexander Lane, knowing it to have been stolen; receiving drapery valued at £l3 5s 4d, the property of Charles Martin Dawson ; receiving clothing, cigarettes, tobacco, confectionery, boots, and shoes valued atj £SO Is lOd, the property of George Gordon Sutherland. Thomas Eric Kidd, a coach-trimmer, aged 25, was also charged with breaking, entering, and theft in respect of the warehouse of George Gordon Sutherland, at Annat. He pleaded guilty to two summary charges; the theft of a bottle or whisky, a leather case, and an oil demonstrating machine, valued at £2, the property of George Phillip Sage, and converting to his own use a motorcar, valued at £340, the property of George Phillip Sage. On these charges he was remanded for sentence unti after the Supreme Court sessions, at which the Chief-Detective stated, he was to be sentenced on a number of other charges. , The Chief-Detective said that on toe night of July 12 the store at Annat- was entered and about £l2O worth of goods stolen, including a three hundredweight safe and its contents. Obviously a vehicle was used for the removal of the goods. Entry had been gained to the building bv boring round the lock with an auger and then cutting the lock out with a keyhole saw. Kidd was arrested the next morning, before the police had been notified of the Annat case in connection with other offences The O’Loughlin brothers were found'with Kidd, but were allowed their liberty until their bach was visited some time later and £oo worth of the stolen property was found there by the police. , » The charge of breaking and entenng at Annat against the . O’Lough! m brothers was dismissed ; they were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on the charge >of receiving s o en property belonging to Sutherland, while the remaining charges of theft and receiving were adjourned sine die, the accused pleading guilty. Kidd was committed for sentence on the charge of breaking and entering. E, J O’Loughlin was also fined _us and costs for ‘riding a motor-cycle at a speed dangerous to the public and 1 s and costs on each charge of riding without a license and not having an efficient silencer.
