LESS LEAKAGE

THE POSITION AT ARAPUNI. DIVERSION GATES PARTLY OPEN. INVESTIGATION BEING MADE. WORKS CONTINUING MEANWHILE (Per Press Association). HAMILTON, This Day. With the partial opening of the diversion gates at Arapuni to permit of investigation being made into the seepage in the headrace, the leakage is now considerably less as a result of the decreased volume of water in the headrace. Although nothing definite has been decided, it is not thought necessary to close down the station while remedial measures are carried out. This all depends on the result of the investigations. The water has ceased to flow over the spillway, and the water level is four feet below normal. A shaft is being driven near the suspected locality of the seepage.
