TERMS REJECTED
THE MINEOWNERS’ PROPOSALS. DECISION OF WEST COAST MEN. ANOTHER CONFERENCE PENDING (Per Press Association). GREYMOUTH, August 2. The terms proposed as a result of the recent conference at Westport of coalminers and owners for a new agreement covering West Coast collieries have been submitted to the unions and by them rejected. It is hoped, however, that a stoppage will be averted, as a fresh conference has been arranged. . In an interview, Mr William Purdie, (secretary of the West Coast Miners Council) said the decision had been communicated to Mr T. O. Bishop (secretary to the Coalowners’ Association) with a request for another conference, preferably on the West Coast, to see if an amicable settlement could be arrived at, also a suggestion that work should continue in the meantime under the terms of the old agreement. In reply, Mr Bishop said the owners had instructed him to say that if tlie miners would send a deputation to meet them im Wellington on Wednesday, August 10, they will permit work to continue under the old terms in the meantime.
It is understood that the inineis aie sending delegates to Wellington to confer with the owners.
