OBITUARY.
MR P. V. NORMAN. The death occurred suddenly on Saturday, at Kedah, Malay States, ■ of Mr Philip Vigot Norman, assistant director of surveys to the Straits Settlement Government, Mr Norman was the only son of Mr P. Norman, ot Ashburton. Mr Norman was 'born in Ashburton about 41 years ago, and was educated at the Ashburton Borough . and _ High Schools. He served his apprenticeship as a surveyor with a firm in Christchurch, and afterwards was stationed in several parts of New Zealand. At one time he was in business in Hamilton. Fifteen years ago he received an appointment at Malay, and had been stationed there ever since. Ho visited Ashburton about two and a half years ago during his furlough. Mr Norman leaves a widow. LIEUT.-COLONEL R. 0. CHESNEY. WELLINGTON, This Day. The death is announced of Lieut.Colonel R, O. Ohesney. Lieut.-Colonel Robert Oswald Chesney was born in 1884. He was appointed a cadet on the permanent Forces in 1900, and was made lieutenant a year late.". He served in South Africa in 1902, and received the Queen's Medal, with two clfisos. lln 1909 lie was appointed Assistant Adjutant-General. He served with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in France.
