Sir Thomas K. Sidey was a passenger for Dunedin by the express train this morning.

Colonel Albert Loach, of Christchurch, was a passenger for the. south by the express train this morning.

Mr James Young, curator of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, and formerly curator of the Ashburton Domain, suffered a stroke on Saturday and was stated last evening to be seriously ill. Mr Young left Ashburton over 20 years ago.

Mrs F. Curtis and Mrs R. Austin, who represented the Ashburton and Mayfield Women's Institutes respectively at the -Dominion Conference of Women's Institutes in Wellington last Wednesday and Thursday, returned to Ashburton by the express.this morning.

At the monthly meeting of the Geraldine County Council yesterday, prior to commencing the business, the chairman referred to the death of Mr A. Horsey. A motion of sympathy was extended to the relatives and to the Ashburton County Council, the meeting standing in silence for a few moments.

Mr W. M. Egglestone has been appointed District Public Trustee, at Hawera. Mr Egglestone is a qualified accountant by examination. He joined the staff of the Machinery Department as a cadet in 1903, and was transferred to the staff of the Public Trust Office in 1909. A member of the inspectorial staff since 1925, he previously occupied the T>ositions of District Public Trustee at Nelson, District Accountant at Christchurch, and other responsible positions.
