LANDLADIES HOAXED.
MAN'S POSE AS A PROFESSOR. Landladies in several parts of North and South London have been hoaxed recently by a man who has posed as a professor of King's College, Strand. By stating that ho required board residence not onlv for himself but also for a number of students at the college, he was kindly received and entertained at numerous boardinghouscs, and had then departed. In each case the man stated that the apartments were suitable, and that he or the students would move in soon, but days elapsed and no one put in an appearance. The authorities at King's College then received inquiries from the perplexed landladies. "This stupid business has been going on since Easter, and iwe have received about a dozen complaints," said Mr Leicester, head clerk at the college. "If it is a practical joke it is a very stupid one, and is causing us a lot of trouble."
