The new Parliament will be called together for business next Tuesday if 85 of the election writs out of the 90 are returned by then. Parliament cannot meet if more than five writs are outstanding. THE QUEENSLAND SWINGOVER. REALITIES MUST BE FACED. (Received This Day, 8.30 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. Mr W. H. Barnes (Treasurer in the defeated Ministry) commenting on the result of the elections in Queensland, said that the new Labour Premier whose promises on the platform had swayed a largo body of voters, would soon be brought face to face with the necessity of adhering to the Premiers Plan. It would be impossible for him to raise loan money, without the assistance of the Federal Loan Council. The alternative was increased taxation when the realities of the situation presented themselves.

REVERSE IN METROPOLIS. FIRST LADY MEMBER DEFEATED BRISBANE, This Day. The Government suffered a .severe reverse in the metropolis, losing eight seats. They did better in the country, but at least four seats changed over. All tho' doubtful seats are in the country. Mrs Longman, the first woman member of the Queensland Parliament, has been defeated. The poll in one safe Government seat has been deferred owing to the death on the eve of the election of the Labour candidate. The advent of the new Labour Government creates a new problem for the Commonwealth G overmnent.
