THE WEATHER.

FROST OF 8.5 DEGREES. A cold night last evening was followed by a sharp frost of 8.5 degrees in Ashburton this morning. After the early morning cold snap, however, the weather was sunny and pleasant, although there was a cool breeze from the north which tempered the sun. The barometer reading at 9 a.m. today was 29.72 inches, compared with 29.'84 inches yesterday. The maximum shade temperature yesterday Avas 54 degrees, while the lowest inside reading during the night was 29.6 degrees. TO-DAY'S FORECAST, The following weather forecast was issued to-day:— Indications are for: Variable and moderate breezes. Expect dull weather with much 'mist and fog in parts. Scattered misty rain is to be expected. The barometer' is falling slowly.
