MODERN SELLING METHODS. An interesting account of the methods of the manufacturers of electric washing machines was published recently in the "Editor and Publisher," and stated:—• "Resourcefulness on the part of manufacturers of household washers m finding new outlets, together with a new idea in advertising appeal, enabled 27 members of the American Washing Machine.Manufacturers' Association to report that their combined sales last year exceeded those of 1930. This organisation represents 85 per cent, of the country's total production. "Mr J. R. Bohnen (secretary of the association) stated that while many of the association members used national magazine advertising, they all looked with favour upon newspapers and encouraged their distributors and dealers to use this medium, either by matching pound for pound any appropriation spent by the dealer for newspaper advertising, or by giving them wholesale credit on washers purchased, when local advertising is employed."
