LOVELOCK'S WORLD'S RECORD. THREE-QUARTER MILE FLAT. LONDON, June 11. J'. E. Lovelock, the New Zealand runner and Rhodes Scholar, who will be included in the Dominion Olympic Games team, broke the world's record for the three-quarter mile, which has stood for 37 years, at the Civil Service sports at Stamford Bridge, He covered the distance in 3min 2 l-ssec, after a brilliant run in which he forged ahead on the back straight. When the track was measured it was found that Lovelock had run nearly three feet over the three-quarter mile. The Frenchman (J. Landoumergue) had done the distance in 3min 0 3-ssec,

but the International Federation has not yet passed the record. Lovelock started from scratch and finished fourth. NEGRO BREAKS THREE RECORDS CHICAGO, June 11. Ralph Metcalf, the Marquette "University negro runner, set three new world's record. He ran the 100 metres in 10 l-ssec, the 220yds in 20£sec, the 200 metres in 20 l-ssec, and equalled the 100yds record of 9Jsec in the national collegiate trials. He will probably represent the United States at the Olympic Games.
