BOXING.
MIDDLE-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP PARIS, June 11. The American, "Gorilla" Jones., was disqualified in the 11th round after repeated warnings, and the Frenchman, Marcel- Thil, was declared the world's middle-weight champion. SULLIVAN-CQSSILL BOUT., Followers of boxing in Ashburton are assured of a really good exhibition tonight when Billy Sullivan and Jack Cossill will meet in a professional fifteen-round bout in His Majesty's Theatre. Cossill arrived in Ashburton on Saturday and had a good work-out on Saturday night. This will be Cossill's third professional fight. He has demonstrated in his previous work that he has grit. He fights for the fighting's sake, and is not content to stand off and wait. In Sullivan he will find an opponent who is equally keen and the bout to-night should therefore prove to be a thrilling one, as both are at the top of their form. Cossill is anxious to make this match a winning-post to give him further matches, while Sullivan is anxious to meet Alan Campbell again in a bout for the New Zealand heavy-weight championship. Patrons will also be given a good programme of preliminaries, in which some of the best amateurs in Christchurch will take part.
