Mr L. B. Mace (manager of the Ashburton branch of the Bank of Australasia), who has been absent en sick leave, has returned to Ashburton.. ~ The flag at the Ashburton Soldiers' Chib was flown at half-mast yesterday out of respect to the memory of Mi E. C Chittenden, who was a member ot the club, and whose death occurred on Saturday. Messrs W. G. Gallagher (chairman) and A. Prentice (secretary), who ha\e been representing the Ashburton Hospital Board at the Hospital Board's Conference in Wellington, returned to Ashburton during the week-end-Mr 0 D. Hardie has resigned from the position of supervisor of examinations at Canterbury College. Mr J. &. Purchase will act as supervisor at future examinations. Mr Hardie s system, which has been in operation tor many years, has'proved highly successful and universtiy examinations at the Canterbury College centre have invariably proceeded smoothly. Mr Hardie was at one time headmaster of the Ashburton Borough School. Mr James Keir, who has been connected with P. and !DL Duncan, Ltd., iron founders, engineers' and agricultural implement manufacturers, resigned from the firm on Thursday last after 5b years' service with it. Mr Keir joined the firm in 1876, and for a number ot years was-manager of its Ashburton branch. While he resided in Ashburton he was for a time a member of the Borough Council. Later he went to Christchurch, taking up an executive position, and at the beginning ot May, 1909 on the retirement of Mr J. Duncan, he and Mr L. L. Cordery were appointed co-managing directors. Mr Cordery, following on Mr Keir's retirement, 'is carrving on >as sole managing director. Mr Keir is the father of Mr D l . F. Keir, of Ashburton.
