RUSHED BY CATTLE.

HUNTERS CLIMB TREES. (Special to the "Guardian ") STRATFORD, June 9. To become the hunted instead of the hunters was the experience of some back country settlers who went out after wild cattle in the bush near Matau. Cattle reared in the bush often become extremely savage and will work themselves into a frenzy at the signt and scent of human l>eings. One of the party was bending down looking for cattle tracks when some cattle rushed at him without warning. He and his companion ran for the nearest tree and just managed to climb. ib to safety. Another man a short distance away was charged by a wild bull and had no time to unsling his gun. He too, sought safety in a tree, while a fourth man, warned in time, was able to prepare. His shot struck the charging beast in the forehead and down it went. At this the whole mob crashed through the bush and disappeared. JThey were not further molested by the hunters.
