HOCKEY.
MID-CANTERBURY SUB-ASSO-CIATION. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The first annual meeting of the MidCanterbury Men's Hockey Sub-Asso-ciation was held last evening, Mr E. M. Oabites presiding. The report stated that the popularity of the sport had increased, and there were signs of new clubs being •formed this season. A primary school competition had been arranged for the Herbert Smith Club cup. The balance-sheet shoV/ed a credit oi £2 19s. ■ ■ The following officers were elected: —President., Mr E. M. Gabites; vicepresidents, Messrs W. C. Bishop, M. Baker, A. J. Millichamp, W. Osman; lion, secretary, Mr S. W. Cower; treasurer, Mr H. H Pearce; committee, one delegate from each club; auditor, Mr W. B. Thomas. It was decided to close the entries for the competition on April 12. THE ST. STEPHEN'S CLUB. The annual meeting of St. Stephen's Men's Hockey Club was held last evening, the president (the Rev. A. J. IPetrie) presiding. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £2 6s Bd. The annual report stated that the first year of the club's existence had been successful, the club winning three matches, drawing two and losing six. Four of the club's players had been selected to play in representative matches. Thanks were extended to the Rev. C. W. Haskell, who is now in India, who had been a keen supporter of the club. The election of officers resulted: President, the Rev. A. J. Petrie; vicepresidents, Dr. N. E. H. Fulton and Mr G. Hosken; delegates to Ashburton Hockey Association, Messrs Paterson and M. J. Lees; secretary, Mr H. G. Paterson. It was agreed to support the formation of a Sports Protection Association. Three new members were elected.
