FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From "Guardian," March 31, 1882,) Upper Ashburton Road Board.—The Upper Ashburton Road Board met on Monday last, when there were present —Messrs D. McLean (chairman), Harper, Stitt and Set-gent. Invitations were received from the County Council for the presence of the members of the Board at the opening of the , Ashburton-Rangitata waterworks. The clerk was authorised to reply thanking the Council, and accepting the kind invitation. The overseer was requested to see to the water dammed up on Poole's road. He was also directed to call for tenders for forming about 30chains of the Maronan swamp road. The chief surveyor wrote returning the map of the, district, and asking the clerk to mark on the principal roads their local names to better enable him to prepare a correct map of the province. Appointment.—His Excellency the Governor (Sir Arthur Hamilton Gordon) has been pleased to appoint Albert John Francis, Esq., to the Registrar of Electors for th© Electoral District of Coleridge, vice J.Beswiek, Esq., resigned, the appointment to date from April 1. Cricket.—The match between the members of the Borough Council and the Muffs Cricket Club takes place on the Domain ground to-day, and tlie following team will represent the Muff Club:—lreland, Duncan, Price. Presentation. —On Thursday afternoon Miss Burr, who has been for several years mistress of the Allentbn side school, was presented with a handsome pair of silver • mounted brushes and comb by the children of the side school and teachers of the Borough School and side school. The presentation was made by Mr McGregor' (the headmaster), who expressed the great regret which children- and teachers felt at Miss Burr's departure. The Rev. A. Peters, who was present, took the opportunity! of stating the high appreciation the school committee had of Miss Burr's work and their regret at losing her services. The transfer was granted subject to rates being; Ffl Oood Friday.—The holiday yesterday was observed in Ashburton very quietly and although the weather was not exactly ideal, many took advantage of tlie dav to vjsit Christchurch, Timaru, and other places. A few members of the local Bowling Club indulged in some practice on the old domain green, while a moderate attendance watched a hockey match on.the football ground.
