EFFECT OF ECONOMIES. WELLINGTON, January 14. The gross railway revenue m New Zealand for the. period of and a half weeks, fr om Aprdl to December o, 1931, was £4,200,L , £858,320 below the, figure lot- the coi responding period in 1930. The aggie-o-ate expenditure for the period was, however, £3,958,541, or £890,453 below the 1930 figure. , The period of thirty-five and a half weeks under survey has been characterised by diminishing returns closely pursued and practically offset b\ substantial cuts in expenditure. Ihe actua net revenue for the period was £246,0Jd, as compared with £248,460 for the coiresponding thirty-five and a half weeks 01 An"analysis of the returns for the four-weeklv period up to Decembei o last indicates -that, toward the end of the year, economies have moie than balanced, the fall in revenue.
