A NOTED AVIATOR.

VISITOR TO NEW ZEALAND. AUCKLAND, January 14. The holder of several flying records in Australia, Mr H. Broadbent, of Sydney, arrived by the Aorangi on a holiday visit of six weeks to New Zealand. He was accompanied by Mrs, Broadbent. Mr Broadbent, who is _ engaged in civil aviation, received bis flying instruction at Mascot. He is a membei of the New South Wales Aero Club and holds the distance record for the Commonwealth for a single-engine aeroplane by flying from Brisbane to Adelaide, a distance of about 1500 miles, in, 17hr 10min. Mr Broadbent visited four State capitals, in accomplishing this performance. He made the first solo flight around Australia last year and established a record, time of 7'days 8 hours. The average daily distance covered on this flight, oyei 1000 miles, was about the same as that covered by Mr J. A. Mollison on his flight from Australia to England. _ During his visit to the Dominion, Mr Broadbent intends to note the position of aviation in the country. At the moment, he said, civil aviation in Australia is being considerably affected by economic conditions and was scarcely a profitable activity, although it had been shown, that air lines were of the greatest importance in maintaining communication.
