WOOL IN DOMINION.

LARGER STOCKS THAN' IN 1930. The August Abstract of Statistics publishes figures relating to stocks ot wool held in the' Dominion on June 30 1931. The information has been compiled from returns obtained from woolbrokers, woollen mills, freezing works, wool scouring works, shipping companies, Harbour Board stores, farmers, and the Railways Department. As in past years farmers comprised the onlv. group'from which a full response is not forthcoming. The great bulk o these, however, furnished returns, and consequently the tables are complete enough for practical purposes, the total quantity of wool returned by the classes of holders mentioned above was 88,146,1761 b, classified in lbs as follows :

The difference in the two totals is made up of scoured (4,769,8401 b), washed (1,846,628), shped (10,915,891), crutchings, etc. (7,067,497), wool on skins (1,620,588), and unspecified (2,115,014). , .. _, . Information is also available as to the quantities held by the various interests. These, figures relate to physical possession of the wool, and are not necessarily an index as to the quantities owned by those interests :

Computed in the grease it is estimated that the total weight, of wool represents approximately 90,600,0001 b, compared with 31,500,0001 bat June 30, 1930. ______„
