The Terrorist leaders' inability to restrain mob passions, which they themselves loosed, has caused » resumption of civil warfare. .:, . - Strikers, disregarding the official calling-off of the strike, began the day by overturning buses- and tearing up tram-lines. Civil Guards, trying to.dispeise them, met a fusillade of shots.. Ine strikers rushed their Union., headquarters, where, with, rifles, revolvers, machine-guns, and ample ammunition, they kept a large force of police and troops at bay for six hours. ,: . The strikers only surrendered-when the troops threatened to. bring artillery and blow the whole building to pieces. ' x ; e Firing continued from other roottops, and the police retaliating with machine-guns. They killed many snipers. . . * ■ The complete casualties are, .not known. Plague now threatens , the city.
