MARTIAL LAW.

ON TEXAN OILFIELDS.

RESTRICTION OF THE OUTPUT

(United Press Association—Copyright; (Received This Day, 10.40 a.m.) WASHINGTON, August lj. A message from Austin (Texas) says that the Governor of the State (Mr Sterling), following the example of Mr Murray (Governor of Oklahoma) proclaimed martial law in the East Texas oilfields, "by reason of the reckless, unlawful and criminal handling of the producing wells." Troops to-day began enforcing compulsory reduction by 468,000 barrels,of oil a day, or two-thirds of the previous daily flow. The move was made under the newly-enacted conservation laws, which are expected to deplete the accumulations of stored petroleum and force up the price by a dollar or more.
