A New Zealander who recently travelled from AYellington to Sydney met aboard the steamer an affable stranger who conversed about the big profits of his theatrical venture in Singapore. The stranger induced the New Zealander to accept a partnership for £3OO. Upon reaching Sydney the New Zealander handed over £2OO in New Zealand notes, to be changed into gold. The stranger disappeared altogether with the money. Detectives arrested a man at- Newtown, and the same time seized New Zealand notes to the value of £135.
