QUARTER’S ESTIMATED INCREASE.

(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, May 7. According to a return by the Government Statistician gazetted to-night, during the quarter ended March 31, 1931, the population of New Zealand showed an increase of 4853, compared with an, increase of 3031 during the corresponding quarter of 1930. The estimated total population of the Dominion ' dependencies and mandated territory is:—Males 803,211, females 769,041. The estimated population of New Zealand proper, including Maoris, is: — Males 771,491, females 739,449. _ The Maori population is:—Males 35,528, females 32,668.
