DRUGS FOR AMERICA.
THROUGH FRENCH PORTS.
PARIS POLICE VIGILANCE. In an anti-drug propaganda campaign in America, it is stated that the bulk of the forbidden drugs imported into the United States pass through French ports. . . . It is admitted in Paris that this is probablv true, but objection is taken to the "insinuation that this may be due to any slackness or indifference on the pai-t of the French authorities. The drugs are sent out of the country under false declarations, and it is obviously impossible for even the most highly organised service t.o examine everv ton of merchandise shipped. The fight of the authorities in France against the illicit drug dealers is being steadily! intensified. During the past year the anti-drug brigade of the Paris" police alone seized drugs to the value of £120,000. Asi the drug dealers usually sell their wares to secret clients at rates far above the real market prices, it is estimated that they have thus been deprived of anticipated profits of not less than £400,000'.
