, A« Australian aviator, Mr Broadbent, started for Australia'.at 6 a.m. from Haiwvorth. His departure was probably the most lonely and most unobtrusive of any Australian flyer. The only witness of the departure was a National Flying Services engineer, who says that Broadbent took-off without any preliminaries. It is believed that the aviator's first stop will be at Munich, a distance of 500 miles. Broadbent carried an extra petrol tank alongside the cockpit.

Mrs Edward Montagu, accompanied by Rupert Belville, a wellknown amateur airman, left Heston Aerodrome to-day in the first lap of a 6000-mile flight to Russia and Persia, The journey, is the first of its kind to be permitted Owing to the former secrecy generally observed as to the whereabouts of Soviet aerodromes.
