OBITUARY.

MRS GEORGE HARPER.

(Special to "The Guardian.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day

The death occurred yesterday of Mrs Agnes Margaret Harper, wife of Mr George Harper, 0.8. E., in her 86th year. The late Mrs Harper was the second daughter of Judge R. J. Loughnan, of the East India Company's Service, who was for many years stationed at Patna, Bengal, and who came to New Zealand with his family in 1868. She was educated at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in England, and later in France. She married Air George Harper, the fourth son of Bishop Harper, in 1871. Mrs Harper was noted for her devotion to the work of her church. She also took a very keen interest in music, She was formerly on the' committee of the Old Colonists' Association. The late Mrs Harper's elder sister is the Countess de la Pasture, formerly of St. Helens and Glyn Wye, England, while four of her brothers-—Messrs H. H. Loughnan, of Avonside, R. A. Loughnan,, the veteran journalist, of Wellington, F. Loughnan, of Wellington, and C. Loughnan, of Hawke's Bay, are still in New Zealand. Of her eight children, three of her sons, Mr George Harper, of Otaki, Mr P.'Hnrner, S.M.. of Gisborne, and Mr R. Harper, of Ceraldine, and her daughter, Mrs James Loughnan, of Fairlie, are still living. Two sons, Messrs F. Harper and C. Harper, died following the Boer War, and two others. Messrs Eric and Gordon Harper, were killed in the Great War.
