ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET. PRICES AT YESTERDAY'S SALE. DECLINE OF Is Gd A HEAD. One of the largest entries of fat sheep seen for 12 months was yarded at the. Ashhurton stockyards yesterday. The quality in a number of pens was better than usual, especially in regard to lambs, which brought up to'los 7d. This .juice was obtained by Mr J. Shearer, Winchmore, for a pen of six: Shropshire heavy-weight lambs in extra prime condition. Two other pens on account of the same vendor brought 14s lOd, this price also being secured by Miss J. Chalmers, Wakanui. The best Avethers brought 12s 10d, the price realised for a pep. of six, sold on account of Mr W. M. Anstey, of Lowcliffe. With the exception of one ewe vended on account of Mr J. Shearer, Winchmore, for 8s 7d, the best price was. 5s lOd, received! by Mr L. Taylor, of Fail-ton, the next best, 5s 7d t being secured by Mr M. Kissane, of Ashburton. . Compared with Tinwald last week, extra prime ewes showed a decline of Is 6d and medium sorts Is per head. Heayy wethers were on a par with last week's; prices, but lighter weights were easier. There was a good demand for prime lambs and prices in some cases were slightly firmer. IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES. THE WAIAU EWE FAIR. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The most pleasing feature of the Waiau Ewe Fair, held yesterday, was that it marked the cessation of the run of declining values for breeding sheep. Values, as a matter of fact, were distinctly improved, the increase being from Is to Is Gd a head, compared wit]) the preceding North Canterbury ewe fairs of this season. It was also satisfactory that the fair closed very firm. Values were as follow: Extra good 2-tooth halfbred ewes to 15s 3d, good 12s 3d to 14s, average 10s to 12s, inferior 7s to 9s (kl; average 4 and G-tooth halfbred ewes 8s Gd to 9s 3d, inferior 5s 3d to 8s; good 4-year halfbred ewes 8s to 9s 7d, average Gs to 7s 9d, inferior 4s Gd to 5s 9d; inferior 5-year halfbred ewes 2s Gd to 4s 3d; average 4-year Romney cross ewes to 7s Id; extra good Corriedale ewe lambs 15s, average halfbred ewe lambs to 7s 3d, inferior halfbred ewe lambs to 4s Gd, average m.s. halfbred lambs to 7s, 4d.

GRAIN AND PRODUCE. CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. (Speqal to "The Guardian.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Wheat offerings are steadying down slightly, but there is still a big quantity coming forward. Millers are buying fairly evenly, Tuscan, Hunters and Pearl being in demand at prices ruling last week. Oats are offering in slightly greater bulk, but the supply is much below the maximum. ' Australian feed barley, which is coming into New Zealand at low prices, is making it difficult for local suppliers to place their crops. The onion and potato markets are dull and lifeless. The following are quotations for produce to be paid to farmers, on trucks, free of commission, sacks extra, except "•'here otherwise stated:— Wheat— 5s 3d a. bushel for Tuscan, 5s 3d for Hunters, and 5s 4d to 5s s<i for Pearl, tor good milling quality. Fowl Wheat—4s 3d to 4s (kl a bushel ; second quality, 3s Gd to 4s a bushel. Oats—Cartons', 2s to 2s 3d a bushel; Algerian, Is 9d to 2s. Chaff—£2 15s a ton. Potatoes—£3 2s Gd a ton. Onions —£4 15s a ton for MarchApril deliveries Red Clover—4d to Gd per lb. White Cloyer—Gd to 9d a lb. Ryegrass—Perennial, 2» Gd to 3s; Italian and Western Wolths Is S)d to 2s a bushel.
