Lindrum replied that the cuehe was then using was made by the same firm- . "The King was very charming andgave me a wonderful time," Lindrum said afterwards*. "He seemed greatly delighted with my exhibition and shoW-: ed a knowledge "of ■ the fine points of, : the game, particularly when I was using nursery cannons, I took the balls three parts of the way round the table,. travelling them past the middle pocket. The King handled my cue and observed the maker's name. He remarked that since Alcocks presented him with the Australian cue he had used no other. "The King congratulated me on winning the tournament and said he had followed it with the keenest interest. One of the first things he looked for in the newspaper was the billiards score. He recalled Australians' sporting achievements, especially Bradman's batting. The Queen laughed heartily at the'trick shots, and asked-me-how long I used to practice. I spent an hour and three-quarters at the Palace, including an interval for refreshments. It was a most memorable experience."
