The Minister of Defence (Herr Groener) defending the Army Estimates in the Reichstag hinted at the possibility of Germany repudiating the disarmament clauses of the Versailles Treaty unless France reduced her military forces in accordance therewith. He declared that the French Army was at present the world's strongest ami best equipped war instrument owing to the intensity of training, the strength of her .reserves, and the quality of the army's equipment. The Treaty hinds other Powers as well as Germain- to general disarmament, said Herr Groener, "We demand fulfilment of the pledge in the interests of peace and European reconstruction. Germany is willing to co-operate in every way of disarmament undertaken on the basis of equality and right."
