THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION.

MATCHES ON SATURDAY. The weather was in fair mood on Saturday afternoon when the Ashburton Cricket Association’s inter-club competitions were continued. Toward the end of play there was a short heavy shower of rain which made things unpleasant for players. A fresh set of senior and junior grade matches was commenced. Results were as follow :

TINAVALD v. ASHBURTON B. / Playing on the Domain Oval, Tinwald batted first in. its match against Ashburton B and made 214 (Elvy 37, C. Brady 24, McNicol 55, Penrose 27, Jamison 10, Guiney 19). ST. STEPHEN’S V. LAURISTON

In the match between St. Stephen’s and Lauriston, the former made 148 runs in their first innings (A Carroll 36, G. Day 30, AV. Hockings 18, J. Lees 18, and in their second innings had! 18 runs for the loss of two wickets when stumps were drawn. Lauriston’s first innings produced 66 runs (AV. Goodwin, not out, 23, Smith 17). For Lauriston N. Lightfoot took two wickets for 18 runs, and AV. Goodwin one for 5. For St. Stephen’s H. Lennon took 4 wickets for 5 runs and C. Stills took four for 22. Details were:—

THIRD GRADE. Rakaia defeated St. Stephen’s by two runs playing on the High School grounds. Rakaia batted first and compiled 51 (J. Flynn 17, L. Christensen 13). St. Stephen’s first strike produced 91 (R. May bury 30, P. Morrison 16). Rakaia batted again and made 82 for eight wickets (Breach 55), St. Stephen’s replying with 40, there being no double figure scorers. In the match between Technical and High School, the latter scored 111 in their first innings (A. Greenall 46), and in their second innings they made 138 (S. Kerr 43, C. AVilliams, not out 32). Technical made 52 in their first innings (E. Stigley 12), and in the half hour of play remaining to them they knocked up 116 runs for the loss of two wickets (AV. Sparrow 28, S. Roulston not out 57). For Technical Sparrow took five wickets for 31 runs and AVillis three for 25. For School the better bowlers were Kerr four for 17, and AA 7 illiams three for 5. Officers Elected!. At a meeting of the third grade team of the St. Stephen’s Cricket Club held on Saturday afternoon, Mr P. Morrison was elected captain, and Mr R. Millichamp vice-captain.
